Staring

Why do we look at the phone when we are waiting for phone calls? They don't come any faster. They may not come at all.

It is the same in cyberspace. You hold your breath and check your email and IM. Nothing comes, nobody has noticed you. You know that time zones and everyday activities do interfere with communication. Yet you keep checking your communication programs. You keep waiting.

Other business calls and you attend to it. Then you return to the computer screen.

Somewhere out there are people. Somewhere there is an email or message for you. Will it come? Will you like it? Will you even read it?

Waiting.

Waiting is better than looking inside yourself. Inside is dark and scary. Inside is chaos. Waiting is better than listening to that selftalk that will nag you and wear you out. You will listen, but not just yet.

You look at the screen again and stare. Somewhere out there is something you need. So you sit...

Staring.
