Jason Scott On Hotlinking, MySpace, And Wikipedia

Here are two items by Jason Scott. The first is a blog post and the second is a recording of presentation he made.

Freedom, Justice and a Disturbingly Gaping Ass

  • I am not a fan of hotlinking and don't allow it on my groupblogs.
  • I use MySpace and hate many of the poorly designed pages to be found there.

The Great Failure of Wikipedia

  • I use Wikipedia when I need quick information links for blog posts. For serious writing I look elsewhere. I have read too many bad things about the site.

Love And MySpace

There was a time when people announced relationships via letters, telephone, and word of mouth. Important relationships like engagements and marriages were announced in special sections of the local newspapers. This still happens.

Welcome to the modern world where a relationship isn't 'official' until it you announce it in a bulletin on MySpace and/or put a picture of your lover on your profile. Instead of being published beside notices for garage sales or obituaries announcements can follow bulletins asking 'Are feet sexy?' or quizzes to determine which Ninja Turtle a person is.

The world progresses but the news remains the same. Love is fine and dandy but if it is happening to someone else keep it near something readable. If a reader can't reach a friend to congratulate them then at least they can go back and take a quiz. ^__^

Cheers
