Good And Bad Days

I have been feeling a bit run down over the last few days.

Thursday wasn't too bad even though I saw that the newspapers had posted photos of the VT killer on their front pages. Irresponsible news reporting is one of the reasons I don't buy the TC and the other stupid tabloids.

On Friday I had very little energy and didn't go to my volunteer job. Part of me wanted to go and part of me didn't. Things have been a little unfocused there lately - at least for me. I felt much better after I caught up on my sleep and had something to eat.

I have been posting at bit more at the international groupblog I am a member of. I have posted about maple syrup, Canadian blogs, and Earth Day.

I post regularly at Big Blog Directory and enjoy doing so. Lately I have been getting more comments there and they have been positive.

Dear Media

This is an open letter to the media covering the shooting at Virginia Tech.

Dear Media,

A gunman has killed many people at Virginia Tech. While that is news and needs to be reported please try to use some common sense. Don't intrude on the victims and definitely don't glorify the killer.

Every time the media turns an incident like this into a soap opera it plants the seeds of another tragedy. Act responsibly and you may save a life.

Why?

I noticed that the local newspaper (The Times Colonist) had a story about the guy who went on a shooting spree at a Montreal university. I agree it is news, and that the story should be told, but hate to see photos of the idiot on the front page. The guy loved violence and wanted to die in a gun battle. He get's his wish and kills and injures people in the process. Our newspaper then "rewards" him by showing photos from his blog. Photos of a guy posing with his weapons. We don't see him as a bloody mess in a morgue or as student or child. We see him as he wanted to be portrayed.

Why must we feed society's hunger for violence by glorifying murderers? I was going to link to the news story but decided he had too much fame already. I am not going to give him any more.
