I Don't Want To Get Laid

There are many different themes used in diaries. A common theme is the need for companionship and it is often presented as a need for sex. This is not a bad thing if diarists are aware of the peculiarities of English.

Look at the phrase "I want to get laid." Most English speakers will know what it means. I prefer to say, "I would like to meet someone and have sex." You might think I am being picky but consider this:

What happens if you find a magical bottle containing a genie? If you say, "I would like to meet someone and have sex" you probably will. If you say, "I want to get laid" you might end up as a chicken embryo.
