I finally finished 'Great Expectations' this week. I enjoyed the book for the most part but found it a little slow in places. There were some very funny scenes in the novel. This book along with Stoker's and Shelley's really show how class conscious 19th century British society was.
I just finished 'The Repentant' edited by Brian M. Thomsen and Martin H. Greenberg. The premise of this horror anthology is that not all monsters are bad. The stories deal with monsters (werewolves, vampires etc) that are heroes - the good guys. There are stories by a number of well known authors - including one of my favourites: Tanya Huff. (Huff's story features the vampire Henry Fitzroy.) The book is enjoyable and easy to read but not spectacular. I enjoyed this book.
Besides reading I have been playing computer games (or trying to) this week. When my machine has behaved I have played 'Railroad Tycoon 2' and 'Rise Of Nations'. I even played some card games and a mind numbing game of Monopoly. Some games work fine and others send my computer into 'spasmatic mode' wherein it gets confused, locks up and/or misbehaves. I think it is time to reinstall windows.
