Friday - Lesson 10: In this lesson, you'll learn about blogging...
I have tried to teach people about blogging but the usual response is "Huh?". Some people just don't get it. People turn to blogging when they have something to say and want a new medium to express themselves. Many people who try it because their friends like it, or because it sounds interesting, probably don't continue. Look at all of the dead diaries in Diaryland and other hosts.
Blogging is about writing. Links may be important or they may not. Links and fancy graphics don't make weblogs. Writing makes weblogs. Learning about blogs is fine as long as one understands the connection to frequent writing.
This makes me wonder if blogging should be taught within an Internet course at all. I think my idea of combining paper journals and blogging is the right approach. The focus of both is self expression through writing.
One thing that "Lesson 10" will do is give people information. Some of those people will become fellow addicts ... er, enthusiasts.

At least the course mentioned in the post acknowledges blogging. Another course (Introduction to Internet Writing Markets)doesn't. Blogs aren't markets per se but corporations use them. -firemind.
