The Political Compass

I was surfing the net and came across an interesting political quiz (via The Record Card). I took the test and scored:

Economic Left/Right: -4.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.67

These results weren't a surprise. I tend to be leftist and have a slight independent streak in me.

I then looked at results for British political parties and candidates from the 2004 US Presidential primaries.

The British information reinforces the comment Christine made in one of my posts. The website states that the BNP brand of National Socialism is "becoming the only sort of socialism on offer". If traditional left-of-centre parties don't offer what people need then the extremists will. This is true in Canada and elsewhere as well.

I found the American information interesting for another reason. Canadians sometimes view Democrats as something similar to our Liberals. Sometimes this is true but only to a degree. Politically both American parties tend to be grouped more to the right. There is also less differentiation at least in presidential candidates. I am not so sure about Members of Congress or Senators.

So what is your score?

Mr Bush needs to learn to speak naturally, not as if all he can manage is the 3 words per line from an autocue
