Blog Visibility

The last post presented an article that is copied in numerous blogs with the links of the sources listed. Later on I wondered if I wanted to be a part of the experiment. My reasons for blogging aren't to build a following, but to express myself and interact with others.

A meme like "Help Make Blogs More Visible!" can make a blog more visible to search engines like Google. As more people post the article it becomes easier to find. Whether this will bring a blog more visibility in other searches is debatable.

Almost anything can be found if you know the correct information. If you know the name of an online journal just type it in to Google and you should find it. It depends on how common your username/blog name is and how often you post. It does make it harder for those who don't wish to be found.

I am not the only Firemind in cyberspace but I can be found quite easily. Specific topics such as the Online Potluck can also be located.

The question remains whether this meme will increase the visibility of my blog. I don't know the answer but there have been some interesting results. I got the idea from an American on Sunday and it has already 'travelled' to Australia and France.
