Search Me

You may have noticed the new Navbar at the top of my blog. It replaces those wonderfully weird ads that would react to my posts. I don't miss those ads because they could be very bizarre. (See this post of Maktaaq's and the comments resulting from it.)

The new Navbar can be useful and it can present problems. It is great for searching weblogs. You can search my blog and my comments for topics. For example: if you search for 'Online Potluck' you will be presented with this page. Be aware that the comments are also searchable.

The Navbar also has a 'Next Blog' button. This is great for finding new blogs to read because it takes you to a random Blogger weblog. This can be a problem because you don't know what to expect. I have come across sites that locked up my browser because of bad html code. I have also come across sites that caused my virus scanner to panic.

There is one item missing that I would like to see either in the Navbar or the Blogger profiles. I would like a keyword search so I can search blogs that use different keywords than I do. For example: one of my keywords is 'Mental Health' I can click on the word and find other bloggers interested in that topic. I didn't list all of the subcategories of mental health. To find people choosing categories such as 'Depression', or 'Schizophrenia', I have to add those topics to my already large interest list.

I can't hide anymore. I can be searched and indexed and googled. Are the masses ready for me?

Most of these features were already included in the Google Tool Bar and we/I the same concerns, especially with the 'random' or 'next' blog feature. I have come across some hardcore blogs. So I don't use that very much. You should forward your suggestions to Google.

Re: keyword search.
I remember reading that Blogger may be working on such a feature. Have you checked out blogwise (www.blogwise.com)?
