Victoria History

Victoria is the oldest city in western Canada. It started as a Hudson's Bay Company fort on land owned by the Songhees First Nation. Have a look at this photo by Mary Harrsch and then read the information that follows.

Fort Victoria

There is a very good website dedicated to Fort Victoria. The 'Fort Life' and 'Then and Now' sections are very interesting. 'Fort Life' is a long read but worth the effort. Compare the pictures with the model shown above. 'Then and Now' (especially fun for locals) is good for comparing the old fort and the modern city.

SS Beaver

A replica of the ship is moored at Fisherman's Wharf. Pictures: one, two, three.

Warehouse

I didn't know the location of this HBC Warehouse until I read the article. It turns out I have seen it before. All that remains is one brick wall.

Victoria Today

CRD/Greater Victoria - links to the municipalities that make up the Capital Regional District. There are maps and historical articles.
