Catching Up

I have been reading blogs, sending emails, and otherwise catching up here in cyberspace. Everyone is so productive and I am finding lots to enjoy.

Mini Book Reviews

I read these books recently:

The Presence by John Saul – teenagers in Hawaii catch a mysterious disease. This Sci-fi/Mystery is interesting and readable.

Red Dragon by Thomas Harris – we meet Hannibal Lecter as he advises the FBI for the first time. This book is not too graphic and the detective work is interesting to read. Expect some plot twists.

Dreamcatcher by Stephen King – If you like King's books you'll like this one. It's very absorbing and quite graphicly gross in places.

Morgan's Boy by Alick Rowe – This was a departure for me since I don't usually read non-genre fiction. It based on a BBC TV series.

17 year old Lee leaves Manchester to live with his Uncle Morgan on a farm in Wales. He was having trouble at home and doesn't fit in at the farm. He does try and the story follows his successes and failures as well as those of the people around him (especially Morgan).

I found the book funny and heartbreaking at the same time. I found I could identify with both Lee and with Morgan as they face or try to ignore the world around them. There are some wonderful scenes and some quirky interesting characters. I recommend it.

It was written in 1984 and my copy was published by Sphere Books (UK). I found mine at a used bookstore.

Toons

I popped in at Tamposi.net and checked out Jake's latest flash movie Ratdance. Like Drummer it is a short experiment with music and animation. He also has made a short toon called King of America. Two things to remember about Jake: he responds to comments and suggestions, and he just turned 11. What will he create in a few years?

Photo's

I will be working on photos this weekend and getting them uploaded to Flickr. I will also do some photoessays in the near future and post them to Firemind and Firepix. This month's theme at Our Photoblog is "Toy's, Game's and Pastime's".

Photography Club

The advertisement for a photography club sponsored by the agency I volunteer for will appear in our March newsletter. The editor and I wrote out the ad this week. I plan to offer workshops on Photography, Flickr, and Photoblogging. We will also go on 'expeditions' to local sites. It will be fun.

That's all for now. Cheers!
