I went out for breakfast this morning to a neighbourhood restaurant. It was quiet and I got talking to the staff and another customer. It was nice to talk about different things rather than the latest news item or piece of popular music.
The other customer was from up island. We talked about the differences between Qualicum Beach, Parksville and other communities. We could have immediately started comparing who we knew in common but that wasn't the point. The conversation wasn't centred around people but rather about location.
Everyday we walk through a changing environment. If we pause and look around we will notice things that we can share with others. This morning I paused and looked around. As a result I had an interesting time.
