Powerful Reading

I read about the the killing of prisoners in Iraq, but didn't get to follow up on the story. I was doing some blog research today and rediscovered Kevin Sites' blog. He is the reporter that was involved.

Open Letter to Devil Dogs of the 3.1 is very powerful reading.

From your link...
"I am still rolling. I feel the deep pit of my stomach. The Marine then abruptly turns away and strides away, right past the fifth wounded insurgent lying next to a column. He is very much alive and peering from his blanket. He is moving, even trying to talk. But for some reason, it seems he did not pose the same apparent "danger" as the other man -- though he may have been more capable of hiding a weapon or explosive beneath his blanket."

This man was showing his open hands on the video...hence, no threat.

I just posted about this before I saw your link Leon.

These people were in a Mosque, and there were weapons stored there, without uniforms, the Marines could have taken them outside and executed them...(Geneva Convention.)

Mick - yeah the Geneva Convention does cover that. I haven't seen the video, but I followed Kevin Sites blog before he was injured in the aftermath of the invasion. When I read his post I was interested in his perceptions and why he was writing the letter. The letter was my first real news on the incident.

War crimes? - I don't know. How do you judge someone else's response in a situation like that.

Sites' response and duty? - I think his letter explains it well.

I will continue this in your comments.
