They say that “music soothes the savage breast”. If this is so then I must be fairly soothed lately because I have been listening to music more than I usually do.
I bought volumes 1 and 2 of the “Classical Music Start – Up Kit”, published by Naxos, and have been learning about different types of Classical Music and different composers. I was surprised at the number of songs I had heard before. I often couldn't match the name of the song with the composer but at least the song was familiar.
My approach to learning about classical music is the same one I used when investigating New Age Music years ago. I am starting with buying samplers or borrowing cds. I am also buying cds with music that I like. For example, I like the song “In The Hall Of The Mountain King” by Grieg so I bought the cd with the music (Peer Gynt).
Where will all of this musical sampling lead to? I don't know – but I am willing to find out.
